FAIRY MEADOWS – THE HEAVEN ON EARTH
Fairy Meadows – the angle’s land is a small grassland surrounded by the world’s highest and prettiest mountains in the Northern areas of Pakistan. In the English language, Fairy Meadows means the house of fairies but its meaning in Urdu is “Pariyion Ki Charagha” (the house of angles).

Fairy Meadows – the house of fairies, is located in Diamir – a small town of city Chills, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. From sea level, Fairy Meadows’ height is 10,800 ft. Located in the lap of the ninth highest mountain peak on earth – Nanga Parbat, the fairy meadows are one the most attractive places for tourists, mountaineers, climbers, travelers, and explorers all around the world. Now, Fairy Meadows is used as a base camp to summit Nanga Parbat – the killer mountain.
History of Fairy Meadows – the unkown facts
Fairy Meadows was discovered in the year 1834. It was the time of British Rule on Sub-Continent, when some German Mountaineers were on a trip to explore the highest peaks of the world. They discovered a heavenly place in the northern areas of (United India), now known as Pakistan. On the basis of its mesmerizing scenery, they named it as fairy meadows. Now, by the government of Pakistan fairy meadows is named as National Park in the year 1995. Fairy meadows is wrongly spelled and searched as Feery Meadows by the people around the globe.
Fairy Meadows Track – world’s second dangerous road
Apart from the fascinations of the world’s highest peak Nanga Parbat, what adds more sensation to the fairy meadows, is the thrilling fairy meadows track. The fairy meadows track is an exciting jeep track that starts from the Raikot bridge of Karakorum Highway and takes the tourists to the Tattu Village – the last vehicle service point of the district. This dramatic jeep track from Raikot Bridge to Tattu Village is a one-way rocky mountain road which is not only considered to be the most dangerous road in Pakistan but, has also been declared as the second deadliest and most dangerous road track of the world as per WHO – World Health Organization. After reaching the Tattu village, there is approximately five kilometers (5KM) hiking, which takes the tourists to the fairy meadows.
Fairy Meadows Weather – delights everyone
Fairy Meadows weather is welcoming for the people from all the demographics, but fairy meadows weather has something special to offer from season to season. From January until early March, the fairy meadows’ weather is cold, dry and welcomes the snow and winter lovers. From April until September the weather is moderately warm and hot. In these months, the greenery of high mountain peaks adds more beauty and portrays a more astonishing sight of the entire land. But, in the last months of the year, fairy meadows weather calls the snow lovers to come and see the frozen peaks of Nanga Parbat.
HOW TO GET TO THE FAIRY MEADOWS – the main route
To reach fairy meadows from anywhere in Pakistan, first, you need to get to the city Chillas, situated in the district Diamir, province of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Chillas is the spot from where the actual journey to the fairy meadows begins. From Chillas to fairy meadows, there are two interconnected tracks,
- First, a jeep track of around two hours takes to the Tattu village.
- Second, the hiking of 3 to 4 hours from Tattu village which takes to the heavenly sceneries of fairy meadows
How to travel from Islamabad to Fairy Meadows by air,
If you want to travel from Islamabad to Fairy meadows by air, then there are two flights operating each day from Islamabad International Airport to the main hub of Northern areas of Pakistan – The Gilgit Airport. From Gilgit Airport, there is a drive of almost 76 kilometers using the silk road that takes you to Chillas. From city Chillas the rest of the journey is the same as mentioned above in the main route to fairy meadows.
How to travel from Islamabad to Fairy Meadows by road,
If you want to experience the journey from Islamabad to Fairy Meadows, there are the following two routes,
- Drive of almost 10 hours and 50 minutes from Islamabad to Chillas city using N-35.
- Drive of almost seven hours from Islamabad to the Khagan Valley. Then, drive of almost four hours from Khagan Valley to Chillas via Babusar pass. From Chillas onward, the road map has been mentioned above in the main route to the fairy meadows.
